ecently, 61 Galena Park ISD students were fortunate to live their dreams on a national stage. The
North Shore Senior High School Wind Ensemble was one of only four bands out of an international
competition invited to attend the annual Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra
RConference held in Chicago, Illinois. While in attendance, the students participated as a model
class to teach hundreds of music educators best teaching practices.
“Attending the Midwest Conference was an extraordinary experience,” Senior trumpet player, Emma
Mericle, said. “Being chosen to perform was an honor and something I will truly never forget.”
Bands seeking an invitation to the Midwest Conference were required to submit multiple performance
recordings which were judged against hundreds of other submissions from around the world. Beginning in
July 2017, the North Shore Senior High School Wind Ensemble began rehearsing an additional eight hours
a week above their normal UIL rehearsal schedule for what would be the performance of a lifetime. The
