n September 2017, Quentin Washington, North Shore Senior High School student and SkillsUSA District
8 President, was selected to go to Washington D.C. to participate in the SkillsUSA’s Washington
ILeadership Training Institute.
The five-day Washington Leadership Training Institute is
sponsored each year by SkillsUSA to provide students
an opportunity to learn about Washington D.C., how
to effectively communicate with their legislative
representatives, and about personnel, workplace and
technical skills grounded in academics.
This year, more than 500 students from 29 states
discussed the value of public career and technical
education to their respective states, the quality of their
education and training, their occupational plans and
the benefits of their participation in SkillsUSA.
During Washington’s trip to D.C., he met with other
students who are also in Career and Technical
Education. All of the students had an opportunity to
speak with Senator Ted Cruz and visit the Tomb of the
Unknowns and Pentagon 9-11 Memorial.
