BUILDING CHARACTER BUILDING SUCCESS
haracter Education is an important part of the curriculum
in GPISD. Our character education program is designed
to help students become productive citizens and lifelong
Clearners. Each month, a different trait is selected as the
focus for students to study utilizing classroom activities to instill into
their daily lives.
Throughout the students’ time in GPISD schools, they have
the opportunity to expand these same principles outside the
classroom by joining clubs and organizations.
One service opportunity for students is the Boys’ Club at Woodland
Acres Elementary, led by Bryan Vasquez, P.E. coach, and Dale
Baca, 2 grade teacher. These two teachers mentor fourth and
nd
fifth grade boys as part of their sponsorship of the Boys’ Club. The boys learn to dress for success, participate in
community service projects and become campus role models.
“I have become a role model for these young men,” said Vasquez. “It has been a great opportunity for me to
mold these young minds.”
“In our meetings, we talk about being respectful and becoming gentlemen,” said Chris Yañez, 5 grader at
th
WAES.
There are many more
opportunities to join
organizations or clubs.
Students can continue to
build on the core values
of character education
by joining the Demoiselle
Diamonds, Distinguished
Debonairs, Gents and
Mademoiselles at the
secondary level.
In the video, Cobb

in need during the holiday
season demonstrating the
core values being taught
by all GPISD clubs and
organizations.
